MY "REAL STORY"

I grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey and spent my summers at my grandparent's house down at the Jersey shore in Manasquan. I had created a love for the ocean, fishing and boating. When I graduated high school I chose to attend the University of Rhode Island which had an excellent program in marine sciences. My summers as a commercial fisherman gave me a true understanding of "hard work" and made me realize that it was time to look for another career. I started to look for a new direction. At the time, my older brother was in medical school in Boston. I visited him and as we discussed my future life's change, his roommate mentioned the possibility of a career in chiropractic. Returning to Rhode Island to investigate chiropractic I found individuals and circumstances which moved me excitedly in that direction.

After the University of Rhode Island, I matriculated to the National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, Illinois and graduated in 1985 at the age of 27. My experience at NCC was a very confusing time in my life. The college did not emphasize the uniqueness of chiropractic. This almost drove me to abandon the field and attend medical school. It wasn't until the 9th trimester when I started to adjust patients in the clinic and visit practicing Doctors of Chiropractic that I become passionate about my own future in chiropractic.

I started my own practice shortly after associating in another chiropractic office. In order to secure a business loan, I had to use my mother's house as collateral. This put a tremendous fire under my will to succeed. Needless to say, my practice grew at an astonishing pace. I was experiencing great success in chiropractic.

At the time, I was mentoring with Dr. Larry Markson, a very popular practice consultant. It was through Dr. Markson's program that I was introduced to many great leaders in chiropractic like Dr. Jim Sigafoose, Dr. Guy Reikman and Dr. John DeMartini to name a few. By attending Parker and DE seminars I was introduced to Dr. Sid Williams, Dr. C.J.Mertz and many more. Associating with these outstanding chiropractic personalities transformed my understanding of chiropractic and my practice from a mechanistic treatment model to a vitalistic subluxation-based model.

The practice evolved from an insurance practice to an almost entirely cash practice.

The evolution away from an insurance-based practice was inspired not only by my dislike of the feeling that I was working for the insurance companies, but also my desire to run my practice based on the principles of chiropractic.

Over the last 20 years in chiropractic practice, although my practice has seen many changes, the use of foot orthotics has always been one of our strongest treatment protocols. I have always believed that using foot orthotics fit well within the realm of chiropractic and improve the outcomes we see in spinal correction. In the back of my mind, I have always had a dream of owning my own orthotics laboratory and improving the quality of orthotics that chiropractors were using. I became a member of the Pedorthic Footwear Association and attended seminars about prescribing and fabricating foot orthotics. It took 3 years of research and development to start Accuthotix™.

I feel blessed everyday that I discovered chiropractic. It was through chiropractic that I met my wife Sherry and had three beautiful children. It is because of chiropractic that I can afford an impressive home and an exciting lifestyle. It is through chiropractic that I have developed many great friendships. I'm looking forward to my next 20 years as a successful Doctor of Chiropractic, an educator of optimal health using natural chiropractic and a supplier of superior orthotics to our great profession.
